This post won't be relevant in 2023 as there's not many older lifters on here other me and Adam1 that bother to post, however, you young bucks are all heading down the same road as us so you might want to remember that. Maybe this thread might turn into my internet legacy down the line and everyone will love and adore the legend "FF" for starting it PMSL :p:LOL:;)

I was once a "Great Man" but I wonder if anyone in the future will even understand that joke or appreciate the relevance of what I've just said...

I understand the relevance and to be honest since chatting to people like yourself and. Ads, I don’t go stupid anymore, even if i could on some exercises i wouldn’t.

Bumped into a guy from the old days early 60s now never seen anyone squat or leg press what he did, he walks hunched over now and on two sticks.

Not worth it is it?

It's deffo worth it mate so don't quit in your prime just because I'm an older dog on the verge of giving up.
Be smart though and don't push gear/training too far unless you think you can make a living from it ;)

Do you ever wonder where everyone went? Not just here but all the old UK "exclusive/private" forums too?

It saddens me big-time. Bbing/lifting is such a serious and niche lifestyle that gen-pop will never understand. It's gone mainstream now though and there's no community spirit/loyalty/brotherhood anymore (n)

I miss the old skool gym culture as well mate.
I train at an excellent gym but most of the time I'm the oldest by a good few years.
I have no time for this selfie, video recording themselves generation.

If I don't get chance to say my goodbyes on here this is me doing it now. I've just a B/P reading (when sedate) of 180-210 by my GPs and they tested me 5 times with 1 nurse and 2 GPs at the surgery over a 60 minute period and they took bloods. GPs were so concerned that they've put me on Canderstan (Edit: Candesartan) immediately and the pharmacy physicians made me sign a "waiver" and give them my phone number for daily phone consults over the next 7-14 days.
Looks like I'm proper fucked on the inside lads and they reckon I'm about to have a major organ meltdown. RIP FF

I don't give a fuck either way mate but I'm pissed off that they've done my head in like this with health scares and end-of-life-predictions. They also reckon that my BMI is 32% just based on being 5ft-10 and 200lbs but they didn't even use calipers to be accurate. The nurse read a comparison chart and then told me I'm overweight/obese/fat ??? WTF ???

Likewise, I have been told I was morbidly obese in the past when I was at my heaviest.

I'm 3 stone under my biggest and in "fair" condition these days for my age so it's laughable that a proper fat nurse can call me obese...

I started out in the spit and sawdust gyms mate when I was 17 and nothing compares.

The old timers would always come over, offer advice and be more than helpful.

Even the foyer was a nice area to hang around in afterwards.

Closed down years ago when the owner died and then sadly commercial shite took over.

Fortunately the place I train now is all old school equipment but just modernised looking (paint, cushioning etc) but the clientele are far from the old skool type.

I know I’m not there to socialise, I’m an in and out kind of guy but there was just something about those environments that pushed and motivated you even further

Miss those days as do I miss the booming forums of times gone by.

Social media never has or never will
Be my thing
